1. Reflexive pronoun (kata ganti refleksif)
Digunakan ketika subjek (she) dan objek dalam kalimat adalah orang yang sama.
She taught herself how to play the piano.
= Dia mengajari dirinya sendiri cara bermain piano.
2. Emphasis (penekanan)
Untuk menekankan bahwa orang itu sendiri yang melakukan sesuatu, bukan orang lain.
The queen herself attended the ceremony.
= Sang ratu sendiri yang menghadiri upacara itu. (=bukan orang lain)
3. Alone / without help (sendiri / tanpa bantuan)
Kalau diawali by, menegaskan bahwa dia melakukannya seorang diri.
She did everything by herself.
= Dia melakukan semuanya sendiri. (=tanpa bantuan orang lain)
She lives by herself in the countryside.
= Dia tinggal sendirian di pedesaan. (=tidak bersama orang lain)
